20.Review of Websites-1

 Introduction

A Website is a collection of publicly accessible interlinked web pages which contain a variety of information. There are educational websites, news sites, social media sites, ecommerce sites, etc on web. Websites are hosted on servers, and require a web browser such as Chrome, Firefox or Internet Explorer to display its web pages.  A website can be accessed directly by entering its URL address or by searching it on search engine such as Google or Bing. Originally websites were categorized by their top-level domains. Some examples include .gov for government based websites, .edu for educational websites, .com for commercial websites, etc. 

Educational Websites

Educational websites can include websites that have videos or topic related resources that act as tools to enhance learning. It helps to make the process of learning entertaining for students, especially in today’s age. With a massive surgery in educational technology since the Covid pandemic, educational websites are becoming more and more popular. Students, teachers, parents are openly depending on websites related to education for gaining further knowledge. Such websites provide video lectures from direct classrooms or private one to one recorded lectures, simple and comprehensible notes on a relevant topic, content or subject such as science, math, commerce, history, language, arts, etc. Another added feature of these websites is the easy mode of accessibility- educational content is  available at any time or any place. This in turn promotes learning irrespective of time, space and distance.

 Review of 5 Educational websites in relation to suitable content for B.Ed teacher trainees

 1)TED

TED has hundreds of motivation, inspirational, interesting, knowledgeable and innovative talks. It features lectures, seminars, talks, presentations on various topics by famous personalities and educated professionals. The TED platform leads on to further discussions, which in turn widens our knowledge and perspectives. The most popular talks are based on the topics of mythology, music, art, dance, politics, psychology, geography, climate, language etc.

It is a website which shares instructional videos made by teachers and student teachers for teacher training. The members are encouraged to upload educational videos content. They also have to rate the videos on the basis of content, presentation style, comprehensibility, etc through constructive criticism. Videos of good content will get the necessary hype and thus the integrity of the site can be maintained.

The videos are prepared and presented by the best teachers in the country.

For this certain websites like TED, SWAYAM, edX, etc help out the student teachers by providing  suitable content so as to transform them into well developed teachers.
