10.Teacher Tube, ESL Café and LinkedIn

 

Introduction

Computers have been used for language and language learning and teaching for many years. The development of the internet and the world wide webin the early 1990s has added another dimension to this resource. The web is interactive, it can be used for communication as well as information. Knowledge on the Net looks at various aspects of the internet and how it can be exploited by teachers as a resource for themselves and their classroom teaching is being discussed in this paper.

 Teacher Tube

Teacher tube is an educational and safe alternative to the benefits of Youtube. It is an online community for sharing instructional videos. Teachers can learn from one another by watching videos posted on the site. Teachers can also set up videos for student viewing in order for them to learn a certain concept or skill.

Teacher tube was launched on March 6th 2007 and the goal was to provide an online community for sharing instructional videos. This seek to fill a need for a more educationally, safe venue for teachers, schools and home learners. This is a site to provide anytime, anywhere professional development with teachers teaching teachers. This is also a site where teachers can post videos designed for students to view inorder to learn a concept or skill.

Teacher tube’s service is free for everyone. The users can interact, add their thoughts, suggestions and other feedback. Their vision is to be a better alternative to other video storage sites. Thus teacher tube become more interactive and engaging for all teachers and learners. It covers all subjects like Science, Mathematics, History, Social studies, Language Arts and kid’s Educational songs.

 Educational songs are available in a wide variety of subjects. English, Maths, Social studies, science and everything in between, there’s bound to be a song for every subject. There are science topic songs, reading songs, skip counting songs, reading phonics songs and even quadratic songs. It also offers education songs on topics as varied as the circulatory system to math songs about polynomials and even videos on St. Patrick’s Day.
